Buddy Valastro accused of drunk driving in New York

Anyone who has turned on the television has likely heard of the "Cake Boss." Buddy Valastro is known for the intricate cakes he makes on his hit television show for a variety of different functions. Unfortunately, his name is in the headlines for a completely different reason. New York police have now accused him of drunk driving.

The charges result from an incident in mid-November. Police claim that they noticed the sports car he was driving swerving on a New York roadway. After following him, they eventually pulled him over.

According to police, his balance was unsteady when he exited his car. They also claim that he had bloodshot eyes as well as other physical symptoms that indicated he was under the influence. Although it is claimed that he failed a Breathalyzer, it is unclear what his blood alcohol content was at the time of his arrest. He has since been arraigned, but has yet to enter a plea.

As in all criminal cases regardless of a person's fame, Valastro is presumed innocent until -- and only if -- prosecutors can provide sufficient evidence to prove that he is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, a standard purposefully set high in order to prevent wrongful convictions. An attorney experienced with New York laws can help a person facing a drunk driving charge plan an appropriate course of action. This could be mounting a vigorous defense in a criminal court and/or negotiating for a reduced sentence or charge. The attorney can also help ensure that a defendant's rights are upheld throughout the criminal process as well as respond appropriately in the event of a violation.
