New York City police officer facing drunk driving charges

When an individual is accused of drinking and driving, there is always a great deal at stake. Often, it is the loss of one's driving privilege that dominates their concerns. However, for some individuals, the losses could be far greater. Such is the case for a New York City police officer who stands charged with multiple offenses, including drunk driving.

The female officer has been with the NYPD since early 2010, and works in the 52nd Precinct. She was recently arrested in connection to an incident that took place in April 2013. Investigators allege that she was drinking and driving when she crashed her vehicle into a parked car. They also assert that she and a passenger fled the scene and attempted to hide in the nearby home of a stranger.

It is unclear how investigators have determined that the officer was driving the car at the time of the crash. In addition, there are no details given as to whether she was given any form of testing to confirm the presence of alcohol within her system at the time of the incident. These factors may come into play as she prepares her defense to the charges against her.

The police officer is now facing charges of drunk driving, as well as leaving the scene of an accident and acts of criminal mischief. She stands to lose far more than just her ability to drive; her career may be at risk, as well. In addition, this officer is likely focused on preserving the respect of the New York community that she has chosen to serve, the loss of which could be far more damaging than an inability to drive.
